Robert Hall has joined the City of London Corporation as executive director of communications and engagement, a month after announcing his departure from the Home Office.

Hall revealed last month that he was leaving the Home Office after four years. At the time he stated he had “accepted a role outside of government”.

In his new role he will take overall responsibility for leading and developing the City Corporation’s external and internal comms functions to support delivery of the organisation’s corporate plan.

The City Corporation promotes the Square Mile’s financial and professional services helping to “drive innovation and inward investment”.

Prior to the Home Office, Hall held roles in the Northern Ireland Office, the Department for Transport, and UK Export Finance across a 23-year career.

“The City Corporation is simply unique,” said Hall. “It shapes the lives of people living, working in, and visiting London and, through its status supporting the City, the country’s economic powerhouse, the whole UK. As an international brand, the City is recognised and respected across the wider world as well,” he continued.

Hall added: “I look forward to working with the Lady Mayor, Policy Chairman, Town Clerk, Members, colleagues, and comms professionals across the organisation to deliver confident, trusted communications and engagement that reflects the City Corporation’s influence, ambition and scale of public service.”

According to the corporation, the comms team both “advocates for the City’s vital economic contribution to the UK economy and supports delivery of front-line services for millions of Londoners and visitors”.

This includes schools, policing and housing, as well as arts provision, outdoor spaces and public amenities.

Chris Hayward, City of London Corporation policy chairman stated: “The City’s success drives UK success, and we have a plan to ensure the Square Mile remains the global business destination of choice. Robert joins at a critical time to support this investment, advocacy and ambitious innovation agenda.”

“His outstanding experience in strategic communications leadership at the highest levels of government will build on excellent work already underway. I look forward to working together to develop the City Corporation’s story and deepen our engagement with communities, partners and audiences in London, the UK, and wider world,” he concluded.
